Basking in the sunshine on the corner of Cardigan and Elgin Streets in Carlton, LE MIEL et la lune is a cafe that holds many hidden surprises. LE MIEL’s menu is richly diverse without being overwhelming. It creatively merges much-loved favourites for straight shooters, with some left-field specials (such as the squid sausage) for the adventurous. All dishes are available in gluten free or vegetarian options without relinquishing on flavour.

There’s a slight Asian bent, courtesy of Korean chef Jung Eun Chae, formerly of Proud Mary. The menu includes multigrain rice salad with Korean seasoned spinach alongside the beef ragu, sweet soy sauce beef burger and potato hash with thinly sliced pork belly and mixed mushrooms. Organic Zeally Bay breads feature throughout the menu. For desert, a Belgian dark chocolate brioche is wonderful and there’s an assortment of cakes, all produced in-house. A box of four for $10 offers great value and extra temptation.

Aesthetically, Le Miel provides an equal measure of European style and Melbourne cafe quirk, appealing to those on the hop or ready for a sit-in, hopefully nursing one of the well-made, Proud Mary-roasted coffees.
