Reynold Poernomo rose to fame as a fan favourite on season seven of Masterchef Australia in 2015, wowing viewers with his artful desserts. Shortly after his run on the show, the “ dessert king ” opened Koi Dessert Bar in Sydney with his brothers Ronald and Arnold Poernomo, who is a judge on Masterchef Indonesia, and their mother, chef Ike Malada.
Now, the family finally runs Koi Dessert Bar in Melbourne. The team offers celebration cakes designed to serve a group as well as smaller cakes and desserts. Expect a changing line-up of over 150 different desserts, including Melbourne exclusives. The Melbourne cakes might include the Carlton, which uses pandan, coconut, mango and almond; the Bananas, made using mis, vanilla, salted caramel and of course bananas; and the NGK, which is short for “National Gallery of Koi” and uses mirabelle plum, apricot, mint and ume.
There’s also a dessert dining concept, where guests will be able to dine in the kitchen on a selection of desserts and watch the kitchen team in action.
