Interlude specialises in Chinese and Japanese teas. It’s run by Sean Then, who also operates North Melbourne specialty coffee shop Cafe Tomi and Bar Kaeru, a CBD saké spot. For Then, tea was the logical next step.
On any given day, there are about five different special tea drinks, three cold-brew teas and more than 20 hot teas on offer. Teas include oolong, green, black and red teas from China and Japan.
The food menu is made up predominantly of danishes. Savoury numbers include chorizo and cheddar and a corn cheese danish. Plus, there are seasonal, fruitier numbers such as a raspberry danish and a fig option.
True to its name, the intention at Interlude is to allow people a quiet moment in Melbourne’s bustling CBD. There’s an artificial skylight, which, alongside the tiled flooring, is designed to help people feel more connected to nature.
