David Bellenger’s bright Hawthorn venture has seen him move from running the kitchen at The Pour Kids cafe in Malvern to pursue a passion for baking at Humble Patisserie. Located on Auburn Road, Humble is amiable and welcoming, specialising in cakes, pastries and confectionary.
When you enter Humble Patisserie the first thing you will notice is the display counter packed with sweet treats. The homemade wagon wheel, coconut ice and musk stick invite you to revel in nostalgia, and if those don’t take your fancy, one of Bellenger’s peanut-butter-and-chocolate-ganache mini tartlets is sure to do the trick.
Humble Patisserie is small, charming and unassuming. Bellenger’s wife Jennifer was behind the shop’s colourful fit-out, commissioning Brisbane artist Emily Nelson to create a large mural of a very sophisticated bunny with his beret and baguette on the patisserie’s wall. Pick a treat and enjoy it with a coffee while watching the world go by.
