Glass Merchants

No prizes for guessing what this cafe used to be. When Vince Tesoriero took over the space in mid-2014 he incorporated elements of the former glass factory into the decor. Inside the large, airy warehouse, old machinery is styled as tables and factory signs adorn the brick walls. Street art tops off the grungy vibe.

Smashed avocado and other breakfast staples are available, but elsewhere there are quirky tweaks. Some examples include matcha-infused scrambled eggs and the parsnip and kale fritters. A daily display of appealing sandwiches and fresh salads covers more bases for lunch; and there’s a counter full of vegan and gluten-free baked goods.

The drinks menu is similarly well rounded. There’s the usual array of fresh juices and smoothies; fresh coconut juice served straight from the shell; European tap beers and a small but popular cocktail menu. Coffee is courtesy of Illy and it’s available as espresso or as a pre-mixed slushie.

All this gives the Glass Merchants a laid-back, stay-a-while vibe. That’s especially true if you score a seat at the old-school arcade game that doubles as a table.
