Owner-chef Rodney Murphy has established five Melbourne-based cafe-bars in his time. But in 2016 he packed up his bags and cafe know-how and headed east to Traralgon in the Latrobe Valley to establish his sixth venture. The resulting cafe, FoodCo on Franklin, has become a local staple serving fresh local food across breakfast and lunch each day.

If the sun’s shining pull up a chair in the vegetable garden to enjoy your morning eggs on sourdough (sourced from nearby Yarragon’s Hope Farm Bakery). The breakfast plate is inspired by said veggie patch and features roasted pumpkin, beetroot hummus, kale chips, poached eggs, avocado and goat’s feta with pumpkin sourdough.

Come lunch, tuck into handmade ricotta gnocchi with prawns, pecorino cheese and dill butter sauce. There’s a menu designed especially for kids too.

A sizeable takeaway offering fills the front cabinet, including homemade pies, salads and sweets. Plus there are a few larder accoutrements such as relish and chutney to pack for the road.
