De Clieu

De Clieu

7:00am - 5:00pm
187 Gertrude Street Fitzroy

There's an elegant simplicity to De Clieu. Everything here feels well polished. The space is named after the French Lieutenant who first introduced coffee to the French colonies in South America.

Being on the busy shopping strip of Gertrude Street, De Clieu has taken the opportunity to develop into a cafe that is specifically dedicated to finding you the perfect bean to take home. In keeping further with its French name, it encourages the use of the French press, which everyone has and ought to be capable of using to make an excellent cup of coffee at home.

While the coffee at De Clieu is everything we expect from the Five Senses legacy, it’s not necessarily the focus here. The food menu for example has a strong focus on small, local producers – ultimately, it’s just a really nice place to be.

Especially as the space, fitted out by Six Degrees, is characterised by two great big counterweight windows with large wooden sills – perfect for sitting with your legs hanging out into leafy George Street.
