Since 2016, Crate Specialty Coffee has been serving standout coffee, creative breakfasts and buttery pastries in the quiet pocket of Heidelberg Heights. That, along with its neighbourly service, poky semi-industrial interior and laid-back al fresco area, have kept locals coming back.

Whether you’re a local or not, its tight yet creative all-day menu is worth your time. Crowd favourites include its juicy bacon and egg roll, chilli scrambled eggs with house-made chilli oil on sourdough, and a souped-up haloumi toastie with house relish, avo and rocket on sourdough. Also on the menu are Crate's house-made cookies and muffins (which sell out early), as well as buttery croissants, sweet danishes and soft and salty pretzels which come from Cobb Lane.

For drinks, Crate keeps things local with single-origin beans from Dukes served espresso, iced or batch brew (which you can order bottomless for an all-day buzz). There are also bags of coffee beans from Dukes and Maker Coffee, cartons of dairy and nut milks, eggs by the dozen from Burd and sourdough from Dougharty Baker around the corner.
