Features
Commonfolk Beaumaris is one of those refined cafes that has something for everyone. Ethical and exceptional coffee to enjoy by the mug or tasting flight. Creative brunches that you mightn’t want to destroy with a knife. Mimosas and lo-fi wines for those on the recovery-brunch train. And a sustainable-coffee initiative to tie it all together.
It started when Sam Keck opened Commonfolk Mornington, a roastery and cafe, in 2010. It drew such a loyal crowd that Kirk expanded the stable to include cafes in South Yarra, Frankston and Beaumaris.
At the Beaumaris cafe, which opened in 2022, your first port of call is the stacked brunch menu. Choose from hulking brekkie burgers, a Ugandan-inspired “Rolex” omelette rolled in chapati bread, or a chilli scramble with edamame and pickled mushrooms.
If you’re on the recovery-brunch train or just riding into the weekend, Commonfolk is licensed – with a rotation of local beers, lo-fi wines and Mimosas. There are also pastries, muffins and sandwiches to take away.
As for coffee, expect Commonfolk’s house blends, including Godfather and Progress Street, along with a decent rotation of single-origin black, filter and cold-brew coffees sourced from the company’s overseas partners. Pair one with your brekkie or test a few in a coffee flight. You also can take a bit of Commonfolk home with a fresh bag of beans, roasted further down the bay in Mornington.
The venue is spacious and light-filled, with plenty of indoor space for families, small groups and weekend beachgoers. Like other Commonfolk cafes, 20 cents from each coffee sold goes towards The Cup That Counts, a Commonfolk-run initiative that supports and sustains the business of its overseas coffee producers.
