In 1921 the suburb of Black Flat, known for its dark rich soil and orchards, was renamed Glen Waverley. Paying homage to this history, Black Flat Coffee Brewers is a small espresso bar that sits at the base of the ramp to Glen Waverley station and provides specialty coffee to passing commuters.

Young owner Jordan Harrick developed a passion for coffee working in cafes from age 14, and later honed her vision while studying in Italy. She’s successfully combined the inner-city Melbourne cafe vibe with the Italian-style stand up espresso bar.

The sleek fit-out combines concrete floors, recycled timber benches, rotating artworks from local artists and outdoor seating sourced from the treasure trove that is the Waverley Antique Bazaar. You'll see the regulars sifting through cards pegged on the wall, in search of their pre-purchased coffee vouchers.

The house blend is from Axil Coffee Roasters, and the staff rotates through local roasters for filter coffee. Pastries and bagels are supplied by Penny for Pound. The team also runs espresso-making classes, where you can learn everything from basic milk texturing to latte art.
