The connection between community and cafe in Melbourne is an important one, and is something that 30Kerr65 handles with the utmost care – the name is in reference not only to its address, but also the correct espresso pour (30mL) and milk temperature (65°C) of a well-made coffee. For Robert and John Dimattina, the brothers behind wholesale supplier Dimattina Coffee, the espresso bar exists purely as a reaction to the convenience and desires of the community around it.

Originally a warehouse for the parent company, the establishment came about as a response to frequent requests from neighbours in need of caffeine. This in turn led to an expansion into immaculately crafted coffee machines and accessories for home and the office – everything from high-end grinders to personalised tampers – and an ongoing collaboration with the Impact English College, dedicated to providing work experience for foreign students.

30Kerr65 also offers weekly coffee training courses on their immaculate machines, with the small classes placing an emphasis not only on the quality of the coffee being produced, but the community that surrounds it.
