This brewery is set just off the East Gippsland rail trail, making it the perfect pit stop at the end of a long day's cycle.

Owners Neil and Lois Triggs run bed and breakfast Stringybark Cottages down the road, and decided to open a venue where their guests could come for a good-sized meal and refreshing drink after a day of exploring the region.

Neil was already an ardent home brewer, and so he merely upped the quantities of his hobby to open Bullant in 2011. The small warehouse operation produces 50,000 litres a year. A large outdoor deck overlooks peaceful farmland, and inside patrons can see into the brewery beyond the glass divide.

Hops - sourced from as close as Myrtleford and Tasmania and as far as the US, UK and Europe - are combined with wheat and malted barley for the six staple beers, which are all named after nearby localities along the Great Alpine Road. There's a Mossiface pale ale, Bark Sheds wheat beer and Tambo River pilsner, as well as seasonal additions such as a summer kolsch and Munich dunkel.

Enjoy a tasting paddle before settling in for a pizza, burger or seafood basket from the extensive dinner menu.
