Features
OK OK is a tiny explosion of colour, sneaking off the rambling Sydney Road to locate in the more suitably laneway-style, Spartan Place. It's positioned perfectly to favour owner and designer, Emina Dzananovic's appreciation for the more adhoc, impromptus nature of inner-city Brunswick. Likewise her ever-changing store is seasonally-reflective with both carefully sourced international and local product.
Complimenting her own range of OK OK basics, socks and hosiery, are the equally colourful Melissa shoes and Baggu bags, as well as lesser known designers who Dzananovic sources and displays artistically in-store. It's a tight fit but thankfully the gallery-white walls and concrete floors help to suggest a creative warehouse feel- albeit on a much smaller scale.
The store has come a long way since its monotone beginnings in 2008; it follows now the more befitting mentality that more is more, accumulating and building an identity that optimistically chooses to paint a happy picture in just about every colour of the rainbow. A value that has endured though is the recognition for local talent and support within the community. It's of high importance to Dzananovic, who allots the mezzanine-style gallery space at the top of the narrow black stairs to exhibitions, collaborations and featured designers.
