Brighton Schoolhouse is a collaboration between brothers Mark and Attil Filippell (II Fornaio and The Last Piece), Adrian and Rebecca Ciorciari (The Last Piece) and AFL footballer Josh Gibson.

The 1840s building on the corner of Church and St Andrews Street in Brighton offers a generous outdoor area, complete with fresh herbs and a playground. The interior is filled with benches, booths and a communal table of dark wood, along with a kid-friendly corner with a mounted chalkboard, and a feature wall painted with iconic figures such as Michael Jackson and Albert Einstein.

Forget tuckshop supplies, the kitchen uses wholefood ingredients with an emphasis on local, organic and seasonal produce.

The menu offers all-day breakfast options, superfood smoothies, waffles, fresh fish and quinoa salads.

Eggs come free range and any way you like, though if you are looking for something different we suggest the combo of house cured salmon, potato and leek hash with slow-cooked egg, avocado and kale.

Whether you are looking for carbs or post-pilates pick-me-ups, the menu caters for all, including vegans and lactose and gluten-intolerants.

Weekends are busy so to avoid the hustle we say get in early, or late.
