Located down street-art-lined Chancery Lane, The Dispensary has combined good food and good tunes with a hefty drinks list since 2009.

This bar-meets-diner pairs Asian-inspired food with an extensive range of craft beers, wines, spirits and cocktails – sourced from either within Victoria or from overseas. There’s Four Pillars gin, Patrick Sullivan wines, Yamazaki whisky and Moor Beer Company beers.

For those keen to learn, the drinks menu is filled with tasting notes and extensive background on each offering – though, a warning, there are almost 1000 options to sift through.

There are small plates such as steamed buns stuffed with soft-shell crab, and crispy duck wings lashed with tonkatsu sauce.

For larger appetites, opt for the bar’s signature Bacon Kimcheeseburger of beef, jack cheese, bacon, pickles, lettuce, kimchi and mustard on brioche. Or try the drunken chicken with ginger, spring onion and coriander.

The interior is moody and intimate, to better enjoy records spinning ’60s soul, ’80s punk and current indie gems. Laneway seating lets you make the most of sundown. Drink in, or pick up a bottle from the retail wall to take home.
