Through the wardrobe door below 1806, The Understudy comes alive with a décor and atmosphere that recalls Alice in Wonderland.
Changing on a fortnightly basis, innovative cocktails take centre stage, with eight categories aiding drinkers in their decisions: effervescent, crisp, fresh, botanical, salted, smoked, rich and experimental. The Understudy’s cocktails start with a concept, an ingredient, or even a name. While taste and aroma are important for any great cocktail, these unique drinks offer a visual or textual element of surprise. Try the ‘Mad as a March Hare’, a sweet and rich combination of vodka, tea, lemon, butter and strawberry jam, inspired by the Mad Hatter’s tea party.
A five-course cocktail degustation, with or without matched food, is an indulgent and fun way to experience a little of everything The Understudy has to offer. Individual drinks come with suggested food pairings for those who want to order as they go.
A handful of carefully chosen beers, wines and spirits will keep those not drinking cocktails well looked after.
The Understudy is a cocktail drinking experience like you’ve never had before.
