Sth Central is the first proper restaurant for the Tommy Collins group (The Little Ox, Hawk & Hunter, Schmuck’s Bagels). It teamed up with Leeroy Smith, former frontman at the Stokehouse, for this casual but sophisticated spot.

Chefs Nick Mahlook (Stokehouse) and Sam Hocking (ex-Stokehouse, Ezard) jointly oversee the all-day menu.

It starts with toast, porridge, omelettes and breakfast salads. Match with a juice or smoothie if you're on a health kick; or a mimosa or Bloody Mary if you're headed the other way.

At lunch, the kitchen's Inka charcoal oven comes into play, smoking smaller plates of baguettes, mussels and lamb ribs. Larger options include sandwiches, salads and steaks. Dinner extends on this format, swapping the sandwiches for more substantial mains such as pasta and roast chicken.

Smith's old friend and former Stokehouse sommelier Lincoln Riley helped devise the wine list, which is seriously solid. The classics are there for those who want to play it safe, but there are also options for the adventurous, such as the Quealy Fruiliano fermented in amphora. There’s a healthy by-the-glass list, a few sweet and fortified wines, and cocktails.

To finish there are digestives such as amaro montenegró and fernet branca.
