Ocean View Hotel
Each corner of the Ocean View Hotel has a different vibe.
On the front deck, people catch some rays and sink a few cold ones as the afternoon slides towards dusk. At the indoor bar, old mates chinwag about sports with the bar staff and shoot pool. The dining room draws in those in search of a hearty, generously portioned meal at the end of the day.
The pub is affectionately known as “The Killy”. It’s been pouring pints and grilling steaks since the 1930s. Mark Volard took over in 2014, and later employed a chef from Cuba. Alongside pub classics such as chicken parma, calamari and steak sandwiches, the menu now offers Cuban-style pork spare ribs and Argentinian barbeque chicken. There’s also a vegetarian section, and vegan, gluten-free and dairy-free adjustments can be made.
The bar has Holgate, Two Birds, Cascade and Bulmers on tap, with Feral, Stone & Wood, Hawthorn, Little Creatures and gluten-free O’Brien among the bottles. The wine list draws from a handful of local vineyards, including Purple Hen, Dirty Three, Cannibal Creek, Bass River Winery and Lightfoot and Sons, and you can buy bottles to takeaway, too.
