Just three minutes from Foster, this hilltop cellar door delivers crisp ciders and sweeping views of Corner Inlet and Wilsons Promontory National Park.

Gurney’s Cider family-owned. Brothers Tom and James Gurnett run the on-site cidery, and their parents Bill and Lorraine help out in the orchard and cellar door.

Start with a tasting paddle that moseys from the crisp, dry signature cider to a mellow buttery cider made using only wild yeasts. The méthode champenoise style is made with a blend of pear and apple, and there’s a citrusy beer-like style that’s infused with fresh hops.

The Gurnett family is slowing covering the 74-acre former cattle-grazing property with orchards and gardens. They’ve already planted 3000 apple trees spanning 30 varieties, including French and English. There’s a number of wild Australian apple trees too.

The folks from nearby Amber Creek Sawmill built the cellar door with timber sourced and milled down the road at Fish Creek. Old-school timber Parks Victoria have been upcycled into picnic tables and feature walls.

The Gurnetts have a 50-kilometre radial limit for sourcing cellar door accompaniments. That means grazing platters featuring local sourdough, olives, Pangrazzi organic cheeses, seasonal fruit, house-made chutneys and Amber Creek Farm pasture-raised small goods. The Great Southern Rail Trail takes you straight to there.

Open weekends in winter, and daily in January.
