Growlers is Torquay’s famous pub, restaurant and cafe. Mostly, that’s down to its beachfront location, which makes it a convenient stop after a morning walk beside the waves or a day spent lounging on the sand.
In summer the picket-fenced beer garden builds a steady crowd towards sunset, with bathers-clad groups sharing jugs of beer at the sturdy picnic tables. The cosy restaurant, with its wall of spirits and dark wicker chairs, comes into its own in winter.
A sprawling menu encompasses breakfast, lunch and dinner, with a separate kids section. It’s a fussy eater who can’t find something to eat here. Before 11am it’s all about pancakes, eggs benedict and toast. Later, Tasmanian Pacific oysters, salt-and-pepper squid, flathead and a seafood platter speak to the seaside location. Turf options include steaks, burgers, buffalo wings and other typical pub food.
Growlers hosts live music every weekend and stays busy year-round. Whether you arrive at 8am or late, there will always be something happening.
