Gertrude Street Enoteca's small room is calm and friendly, with a nurturing, simple menu and an ethos of provenance and quality. The walls are lined with bottles of wine that you can drink on site or take away. There are all sorts of wines from all sorts of places, the only rule of selection is that they have to be good.

An Enoteca is an Italian word meaning a place to have drink and something small to eat. Gertrude Street Enoteca is very Melbourne in its approach and its product, serving wines from Victoria (with breathtaking European choices selected by co-owner James Broadway) as well as delicious meals offered on a succinct menu; think local produce treated intelligently and simply as co-owner, chef and local food advocate, Brigitte Hafner, is in the kitchen. For a really special experience, try the "Table" upstairs, where you can have a private dinner-party experience with matched wines and unmatched food.
