The Alps
THE LATEST
Over the last few months, The Alps has undergone a revamp and renovation. There’s now an open kitchen serving plates like fried meatballs, plus thin, Roman-style pizza. The main addition is a leafy outdoor courtyard, perfect for long hours spent lingering.
On June 7 and 8, the team will be giving away free pizza all weekend to celebrate the wine bar’s new era. Bookings are encouraged but walk-ins are also welcome.
Whether it’s biodynamic New World booze, or traditional Grand Cru from the ancient vineyards of Burgundy, it makes no difference to the folks at The Alps, who are behind Toorak Cellars, Milton Wine Shop, The Hills, The Moon and Clover.
What matters is that wines taste of where they’re from. They concentrate on producers who make bottles with honesty and transparency, where clearly representing terroir is favoured over style.
This comes together across a collection of around 400 bottles, 20 of which are available by the glass. There’s a particular focus on the Jura, Savoie and Burgundy, regions at the foothills of the European Alps – hence the name.
The regularly rotating food menu might include Roman-style pizza and fried meatballs along with snacky antipasto plates.
Besides vino, The Alps also has a selection of beer in cans or on tap, which includes Panhead’s XPA, Sample’s Gold Ale and a blonde ale from Mont Blanc.
