Working in the tradition of Andy Warhol and like minded pop-artists, Melbourne illustrator and artist Neryl Walker has combined a career in commercial illustration - for Coca Cola, McDonalds, Readers Digest, Bloom Cosmetics and Vogue Nippon among others - while also being represented as an artist in New York, Europe, Japan and Australia. Her work has been included in Luerzer’s Archive top 200 illustrators list and has exhibited at Outré and FAD Gallery in Melbourne.

Neryl’s upcoming exhibition, Know Your Product at Lamington Drive, is a cheeky look at the use of the female image in the media throughout the 20th century, inspired by her commercial work as well as hours trawling flea markets for pin-ups, posters and record covers from the 1950s and 60s.

Know You Product features new works on canvas and A3 prints in her signature style: voluptuous women, candy-coloured and sun bleached with a vintage feel. Strong line work and hand-drawn typography are no doubt influenced by her initial studies in graphic design. With titles such as Rumbarella and Booby Trap, Neryl’s art is as charming as the pin-ups that inspired them with its sense of humour and a hint of boudoir glamour.

Know Your Product open June 2 at Lamington Drive and runs until June 25.
