Down near the beach in St Kilda is an innovative new concept: Surface Exhibition & Pop up Shop. Initiated by artist Aaron McKenzie and his partner Renee McCready, Surface is a retail gallery space set to incubate a love of art, design and food.

Filled with made to order furniture and vintage pieces you can actually sit on, this gallery it is more than simply a room in which to present art or product. On Carlisle Street next door to long-time local Galleon cafe, it’s a space large enough that it doesn't feel crowded but small enough to still feel intimate. Specialising in short exhibitions that last 5-10 days, this creative duo are on a mission to revise peoples’ perception of space, reinventing art shows to become more like events.

On opening nights Surface will be collaborating with ex Vue De Monde chefs, Raul Moreno Yague and Andreas Papadakis, in their new pop-up gastronomic theatre concept ‘Comida Bebe’, which will become part of the exhibition.

Surface has also been invited by St Kilda Council to be part of the St Kilda Festival in January. For this Surface is working on a collaborative project with City Lights to produce a surf and motorbike themed exhibition where they’ll be looking to profession surfers and Mambo artist for contribution.
