After more than 15 years, Melbourne-based furniture brand Globewest has opened its first direct-to-public outlet in a converted warehouse in Springvale.
The retail store, which is attached to the brand’s longstanding headquarters, is located is the 1400-square-metre space that previously housed its popular biannual clearance sales.
“As soon as one clearance was over, [people would ask] when the next one was,” says Stephen Mendel, who co-founded the brand with his brother Alan in 2004.
The warehouse has had a face lift, but it’s still selling furniture and homewares from past seasons at up to 50 per cent off.
“We had a three-pronged renovation approach,” says Mendel. “First we wanted to renovate the design offices and flagship showroom, then the outlet. Finally, [we] set up the online outlet.”
The warehouse’s concrete floors have been painted pale grey, and the walls and ceilings are now navy. Cream cladding runs around the walls at ground level.
The online outlet will launch later in July.
“When we were renovating the offices, we figured if we had the stock, we should sell it. Plus, interstaters have long felt left out of our warehouse clearance sales, so we’re excited to see their response to the online outlet.”
Pieces from the brand’s design collections – Contemporary, Modern, Classic, Eclectic and Retreat – are available at up to 50 off the original retail prices.
There’s living room, dining room, bedroom and outdoor furniture, as well as homewares such as mirrors, chopping boards, cushions and throw rugs. Everything is simple, stylish and functional.
Customers can park on-site and organise collection or delivery for later. The online outlet will ship Australia-wide.
