A couple of bright Melburnians have come up with Parkhound, a website and app that gives drivers a comprehensive picture of parking availability.
Robert Crocitti and Michael Nuciforo have developed the interactive online map and app that allows drivers to digitally navigate parking options. The map covers street parking, private car spaces and car parks. It also includes details such as time limits, costs, loading zones, clearways and disabled spots.
Beginning as a Melbourne-based website, Parkhound has rapidly expanded to include all major Australian cities. It now has 3000 parking spaces in its database across Australia – 1200 of those are in Melbourne.

As well as offering a clear picture of parking availability, users can lease their private carports or driveways to other users, for which they can charge a parking fee. According to Nuciforo, there are potentially 184,000 of these “untapped” parking spaces, which were previously “going to waste”.
