Private gallery viewings are one of Broadsheet Access members’ favourite events.
On June 25, Access members were once again invited to escape the crowds at an exclusive after-hours viewing of French Impressionism at the NGV, featuring works from the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.
Straight from the MFA’s collection, French Impressionism displays more than 100 paintings from some of the giants of art history. The exhibition is curated to take viewers on a journey through late 19-century France, highlighting the artists who rejected the conventions of the time. Think Claude Monet, Edgar Degas, Alfred Sisley and more.
At 6pm, a select group of fewer than 150 Access members entered through the gallery’s grand waterwall, where they were greeted by the Broadsheet Access team. Next, they heard from NGV curator Meg Slater in conversation with Broadsheet ’s editorial director Katya Wachtel, where Slater’s insights contextualised the immense exhibition.
After the Q&A, guests had an hour and a half to wander through the show’s 10 thematic sections at their own pace. It’s one of many reasons why Access’s after-hours viewings are so popular – there’s ample time and space to truly appreciate the artworks. The final room, brimming with Monet pieces, was a crowd favourite, as was the still life room.
Broadsheet Access regularly hosts after-hours exhibition viewings at some of Melbourne and Sydney’s best-loved galleries. Make sure you catch the next one, by becoming an Access member today. No crowds. No lines. Just you and the art.
