Together with creative agency Hunter, Grolsch has commissioned local artists James Dodd and Simon Murray to design the exterior of a tram. But this isn’t any old tram. On the tracks of the #86 – which you’ll find making its way from the Docklands, through the city, up into Fitzroy and Northcote then on to Bundoora (and back) – this tram is a dark horse in a fleet of green and yellow or white. The result is a moving piece of art, a tram covered in palm trees, yetis and signature swing-top bottles of beer.

In a short film documenting the story of the tram, James and Simon discuss how they put the elements together as artwork is applied to the exterior. Directed by Melbourne-based cinematographer James Flemming, the film, titled #86, is a short five and a half minutes and features interviews with the boys about growing up in the suburbs, illegal graffitiing and being banned from all public transport before ironically being commissioned to decorate a tram with their illustrations.

You may have even seen it trundling down a street near you. If not, watch #86 here:
