New to the Emerging Writers' Festival line-up, Amazing Babes was inspired by Eliza Sarlos’s picture book of the same title. It pays homage to great women in history (Gloria Steinam, Kathleen Hanna, Aung San Suu Kyi, Malala Yousafzai) through a series of hand-drawn illustrations. Like the book, the Amazing Babes event is a celebration of the women who have influenced other women and who have made a difference. An all-female panel will share stories about the women who have inspired them, both in their writing and in life.
“Gender parity has always been a high priority for The Emerging Writers' Festival,” says festival director Sam Twyford-Moore, “and we’re very excited to be celebrating women in one of our biggest events this year.”
Featured in the line-up is Voiceworks editor Kat Muscat, television writer Zoe Norton Lodge, writers Lou Heinrich and Michelle Law and writer and musician Sam George-Allen.
Twyford-Moore promises, “A supportive, empowering and fun night celebrating all kinds of women. Plus dancing. So much dancing.” The event, which is hosted by Eliza Sarlos, also features music from Canberra-based girl band Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret and a DJ set from Rookie writer and Filmme Fatales editor Brodie Lancaster.
