This two-day Bowie love-in will prove you can never have too much Thin White Duke. Ahead of the impending launch of its all-encompassing Bowie exhibition, ACMI has announced The Stardom and Celebrity of David Bowie. It is a huge, two-day symposium on all things Bowie with keynote speakers, panels, performances and workshops.
Although run in conjunction with the University of Melbourne and Deakin University, this is not a dry academic conference. Much like the exhibition itself, the symposium promises to be a love letter to Bowie’s influence and enduring appeal, with guests and panelists from the worlds of music, fashion and academia.
There’s a lot to talk about, and some highlights include panels on Bowie’s gender transgressions and stage personas; a keynote speech from The Go-Betweens’ Robert Forster; and photographer Mark Cox’s interactive re-staging of the iconic Aladdin Sane cover shoot. We’ve also been promised a ukulele rendition of Golden Years. Why not?
The Stardom and Celebrity of David Bowie runs from July 17–18. Tickets are available now.
