Mister Zimi, owned by local husband and wife duo, Zoe and Jimi Paul came about after Zoe had a leather jacket tailor-made from her sketches while on a holiday in Bali. When she returned home, it attracted too much attention from friends to ignore.
That jacket led to a bigger repeat order, which led to an online fashion label. A series of pop-up sale stores later and Mister Zimi on High Street, Armadale was born.
Located at the rear of the heritage-listed Kings Street Arcade, the Mister Zimi space is welcoming, eclectically decorated and filled with light. A psychedelic rainbow elephant head crafted from woven fabric adorns a stark white wall, somehow not looking out of place in the same space as an imposing taxidermy deer’s head and a bright-yellow chandelier.
The carefree and diverse interior mirrors the unique, offbeat clothing on the racks. Morose Melbourne black is largely ignored in favour of a vibrant colour palette that includes mustard, navy blue, orange, maroon and a deep emerald green. There are also deliciously soft leather and suede boots, jackets and leggings.
Bringing a friendly Balinese approach to Armadale, customers can custom order sizes and stock from the label’s factory if what they desire isn’t available.
