Toorak Cellars is equal parts wine bar and bottle shop. That’s the way owners Lyndon Kubis, Renton Carlyle and Mark Hopkinson like it and you’ll find a similar setup at their other venues, Milton Wine Shop, Romulus & Remus, The Alps and The Hills.

Another thing like they like: wine, in all its different forms. They don’t care if it’s young, old, orange, natural, traditional or fizzy. So long as the wine is made with honesty, transparency and tastes of where it’s from, they’ll stock it.

This broad remit means Toorak Cellars’s by-the-glass blackboard often displays classic German rieslings alongside trendy biodynamic numbers from Victoria or Chile. There’s something for everyone. Take a seat at a cosy round table or the long communal and enjoy a few cold cuts or other snacks. The gentle atmosphere means plenty of headspace to appreciate what’s in your glass. In warmer months the courtyard is also a pleasant option.
