Stable (formerly known as Filly’s Stable) has been a top Albert Park fashion destination since 2008. Founder Lauren Nicholls opened the clothing and accessories boutique while still working as an international buyer, which she’s done for two decades. In 2022, the much-loved boutique underwent a rebrand and bold but approachable refurb to match.

The shiny fit-out was guided by Fitzroy North-based interior-design firm Studio Manifold, which transformed the Bridport Street space to include gold finishes, baby blue walls, and vibrant pieces by local and European designers.

Nicholls sources the stock but doesn't buy into trends so much, instead focusing on pieces that can be styled to suit a range of customers’ bodies. You might find eclectic dresses by Spanish slow-fashion label Celia B, elegant staple pieces from luxury brand Self Portrait, or vintage-inspired collections by Rixo London. Footwear by British label JW Anderson has also proved popular.

You’ll also be able to shop Nicholls’s own label, On Parks – or OP. The fabrics are predominately sourced from Italy and Japan, and the pieces are made with subtle details and patterns.

And, of course, a central focus of the store is its carefully curated jewellery collection, in a statement raw-metal cabinet, which Nicholls says is filled with both high-end and more accessible pieces. Expect jewels from the likes of Celeste Starr, Temple of the Sun and Cleopatra’s Bling.

Stable can be a little “mumsy” at times, but that fits to its Albert Park locale. It has an eclectic range and will have you dripping in colour from head to toe. You just need to know how to pull it all together.
