Wally’s opened on a Cardigan Place corner in 2024 as a neighbourhood wine bar. Since then, it’s evolved into a produce-driven restaurant that still offers a strong wine list, with a beefed-up menu that gives locals plenty of reason to keep coming back.
Here, dishes approach what you’d find at a restaurant – larger and more suitable for a proper meal – as opposed to the snack-sized plates typically offered at a wine bar. The menu is seasonal, but you can expect mains along the lines of gnocchi, market fish, roast chicken or steak frites.
The broad drinks list covers major varietals and regions, with bottles ranging from easy and accessible through to special-occasion drops.
Studio Ami designed the space, which feels much larger than its 25-seat capacity. The venue has light fixtures by Aussie designer Henry Wilson and two brass shield mirrors imported from France. But the first thing you’re likely to notice when you walk in is a wine bottle-lined banquette that spans the length of the room, which is dotted with brass tables and set beneath a mirrored ceiling.
