Kic, Steph Claire Smith and Laura Henshaw’s holistic wellbeing and fitness app, began life as an e-book, Keep it Cleaner, in 2015. Now with 2.5 million members spanning 121 countries, plus podcasts, books, pop-ups, the Kic wellness app and a wide product range, the brand is embarking on its next chapter. In April, the first KicStudio will open in Cremorne. “We’ve always dreamed of creating a physical space to connect with our community,” says Henshaw.

In the new space, the brand’s ethos remains front and centre: move for how you feel. Henshaw is a staunch advocate for somatic movement, which focuses on your internal experience of movement and slow, gentle release through a blend of Pilates, resistance and breathwork. “The physical aspect becomes secondary,” she says.

At KicStudio, lead trainer Imogen Sist will run classes including Energise (dynamic, low-impact cardio), Power (a flowy, full-body strength class) and Unwind (fusing yoga, Pilates, stretching and meditation). There’s a breathwork offering too, and monthly sound healing sessions designed to unlock deep rest.

You’ll find Henshaw, a new mum, weaving Unwind and Power classes into her postpartum recovery. “It’s the perfect way to let go of tension and process emotions,” she says. But she predicts Energise will be the biggest revelation for the public.

“The feeling you unleash after this class is surreal. I think what will surprise people most is how transformative 50 minutes can be. This class is so unique, there’s just nothing like it in Australia.” The high energy session has been specifically designed around rhythm, repetition and music “to activate your full body”.

Every element of the new Cremorne studio is intended to calm your nervous system – from a halo skylight to a cosy community space. Matt Martino of Martino Group is behind the design. “We wanted to create an escape from the outside world,” he says. It’s not about minimalism, but using quality materials and warm tones to create a serene atmosphere. It is, he says, a “completely new design language for Kic”.

The new studio is part of a broader brand evolution as it seeks to expand well beyond its app. With people increasingly seeking in-person connections, Kic wants to meet its audience wherever they are. “We never could have imagined the incredible community we’ve built,” says Henshaw. “Staying true to moving for how you feel has been the foundation of everything we’ve created.”

If you’re not in Cremorne, don’t worry: more studios are coming.

Foundation memberships are available from March 11. KicStudio opens April 2026, and Broadsheet will have the First Look.
