Brigadoon Cottages
To enter this verdant property, you must first descend a winding driveway fringed by lush native bushland. Then, Brigadoon Cottages’ 15 acres presents itself – a mixture of towering oaks, flower-heavy gardens and open pastures to explore.
Owner Michelle Barraclough greets you on arrival with a smile and a pre-lit log fire roaring in your cottage. Six self-contained cottages dot the property, which were all individually named after Scottish whiskies by the previous owner.
King or queen-size beds are the centrepoint of the loft or attic-like bedrooms, with the sloped ceilings offering leafy views at every angle. That roaring fireplace keeps the downstairs lounge and dining area toasty, while you make dinner in the fully equipped kitchen.
Each cottage is stocked with breakfast supplies, including wood-fired sourdough from Mirboo North-based bakery Oak and Swan, jam, butter, muesli, milk and yoghurt. There’s also a pod espresso machine for your morning cuppa, and vegan treats from Raw Harvest cafe up the road.
DVDs, books and music are on hand if you need a little entertainment, and the wi-fi works superbly (a rarity in the country). Mindful touches include Thankyou hand soap and native botanicals bathroom products.
Two on-site dams provide a habitat for frogs and birds, and you might also spot wallabies, wombats, koalas and echidnas roaming the landscape.
