Billabong Falls
Billabong Falls is the type of accommodation we all dream about: a treehouse-style villa in Victoria’s Dandenong Ranges, surrounded by seven acres of glorious natural bushland, complete with its own private natural swimming pool and waterfall.
Dandenong Ranges-based landscape designer Phillip Johnson and his wife Sarah Johnson are responsible for the property. They designed the surrounding landscape and used to live on the property itself. But in 2017 they decided they wanted the public to experience it too, and so they repurposed their home into a bed and breakfast (their studio is still next door).
The spacious accommodation features two bedrooms, an open living area with views of the forest and nearby Yarra Valley, a kitchen stocked with fresh local produce (farm-fresh eggs and goodies from the vegetable patch) and a stunning landscaped garden surrounded by the region’s mountain ash trees.
Billabong Falls is in Olinda, which is less than an hour’s drive from Melbourne and 20 minutes’ drive from the Yarra Valley, so it’s perfect for an overnight stay or as a base to explore the Yarra Valley and the Dandenongs. It’s also close to Sassafras and Olinda town centres, in case you need supplies.
