Kitty Burns is named after the two girls, Kitty Minogue and Alma Burns, who inspired the iconic Skipping Girl sign nearby. That’s not all it blends. It’s also mastered two Melbourne brunch tropes – health food and, “Wow, this looks good.”

Nutrition leads the way with dishes such as Kitty Greens served with house grains and toasted almonds (add a poached egg or chicken) plus a huge selection of raw, vegan cakes.

Weekend blowouts are catered for with Rustica cronuts and Meet Mr Burns – a slab of cured bacon and black pudding. Other highlights include Melbourne cafe favourites spliced with Asian flavours, such as the umami-rich salted avo and edamame smash

Biasol created the open, cubby-house feel inside, complete with a burst of lush greenery where the high ceiling meets the “picket fence” walls. Taking centre stage is a fully kitted-out “alchemy bar” dealing in blended drinks.

Smoothies take up half of a separate drinks menu, with playful names such as Not-tella Tiramisu and Schwarzenegger on Vay-Cay. Fresh juices and elixirs have their own column too. Housemade milks – almond, hazelnut, and coconut – complement the Allpress espresso nicely. Teas are by Storm in a Teacup.
