Wines for Joanie
Features
In 2012, Prue and Andrew O’Shanesy packed up their life in Queensland and moved to the pristine Tamar Valley with their ute, two cattle dogs, horse and cat in tow. With farming backgrounds and a mutual love of wine and the country life, the couple was keen to embrace Tasmania’s cooler climate.
Today they manage an established vineyard at Karena and a young block of pinot noir at Glendale. Drive down the dirt road and you’ll discover 140 acres of vineyard and grazing land, with stunning rural views.
The Wines for Joanie cellar door is behind an old apple-packing shed. It’s as romantic as it sounds – and a genuinely personal experience. Enter to taste pinot noir, pinot gris, chardonnay and sparkling. They’re all made by Andrew, an experienced viticulturist who’s worked in Europe.
The O’Shanesy family lives on the land and creates a welcoming, down-to-earth atmosphere that feels less like a cellar door and more like a family gathering. You’ll probably want to stay a while – in which case, you can stay overnight in the renovated Farm Cottage accommodation.
