In 2016, friends Adam Pinkard and Adam Saunders, the former a paramedic, the latter a master builder, came together to turn a whisky dream into a working distillery.

The dream eventually became a reality when the Adams constructed their distillery in Glen Ireh Estate near the town of Perth, 15 minutes south of Launceston. Eyeing expansion, they took on investment from Glen Ireh Estate’s owner, Professor Berni Einoder, a renowned Tasmanian surgeon. And when whisky production kicked off in late 2016, it was clear that this was a much bigger enterprise than the many small-scale distilleries in Tasmania’s south.

The first Adams Single Malt Whisky, a heavy, complex and slightly smoky offering, was released in late 2018. Since then, a range of bold single malt whiskies matured in a variety of different cask types have been released.

Fire devastated the main distillery building in February 2021. The steely Adams team have since rebuilt what was lost, revitalising the grounds and expanding the distillery site to offer up an even better experience for visitors.
