If your accommodation preferences sit at the intersection of adventure and luxury, the Berkeley River Lodge is a serious option to consider. It’s also one of the most remote luxury escapes in the world: there’s no road access, so to get here you’ll have to fly from Darwin or Kununurra.

But getting here is all part of the fun, as your flight passes over the beautiful and rugged Kimberley coastline. It’s an unfailingly spectacular journey. Landing at the lodge’s airstrip is a thrilling – and cinematic – way to start your stay.

The Lodge sits atop a sand dune and is right near the ocean – so there’s a cooler breeze than you’d typically get in the Kimberley. (Pack a variety of clothes for the temperature changes.) Your package is all-inclusive, with meals, wine, tours of the area and the chance to cruise the coast and go fishing. Swimming at the beach is sadly not an option – this is crocodile country – but a stunning pool with panoramic views more than makes up for it.
