Tyler Clark developed a passion for Australian whisky while working around the country as an apprentice electrical engineer. He later hand-built 7K’s first distillery in three modified shipping containers on his nan’s rural property – including a pot still of his own design.

Clark started filling casks with spirit in 2017, while also creating an array of different gins and liqueurs. The first 7K single malt whisky releases appeared in late 2020, and by that stage Clark had outgrown his ingenious shipping container site and moved the distillery to Derwent Park, just north of Hobart’s CBD.

At the distillery and cellar door, you can get a taste of 7K’s sought-after single malts, which are frequently matured in ex-sherry and pinot noir casks, while learning more about the forward-thinking small-scale operation. Tours and tastings run from Monday to Friday and can be booked via 7K’s website.
