Features
After working stints in Hobart and London, Laurel Benson (ex- Frank) distilled all her hospitality know-how into this bright, all-day wine bar. Rosie In My Midnight Dreams (partially named after the DJ Shadow track and Benson's dog) is set in the floating Brooke Street Pier on Hobart’s waterfront. And its casual communal tables make an ideal spot to sit and have a drink – be it coffee, wine or cocktail – and satisfying snack at any time of day.
Floor-to-ceiling windows showcase the River Derwent, and let you people watch as hordes of Mona attendees board the nearby ferry. You might stop in for breakfast before you board that very boat: Rosie opens early. The daily dishes are scrawled onto a blackboard and have included sourdough crumpets drizzled in honey; anchovy and ricotta toast; and overnight oats with maple and pear. The three-cheese toastie with preserved chillies has staked out a near-permanent position.
Around lunch, expect simple yet satisfying pasta; meze-style plates with charcuterie, cheese and pickles; and snack-size toast that might be topped with anchovy and ricotta, or baba ghanoush, jammy eggs and herbs. Most of it pairs nicely with something from the wine list, which features Tasmanian bottles alongside ones from further afield, like Italy and France. Or, sip a classic cocktail: Negroni, Margarita and the crowd-favourite Martini are on offer.
