Features
The Farm Shed is a multi-purpose space designed to share the stories of local winemakers. Set on the main road of the quiet coastal town of Bicheno, the venue houses a wine centre, cafe, post office, retail space and design gallery for local artists.
Owners Subi Mead and Helen Bain stock wines from 18 small-scale vineyards on Tasmania’s east coast. Many of these rely on the Farm Shed as their cellar door and have a unique story to tell. These include The Bend, a small vineyard owned by a sheep farmer who bottles a fantastic cabernet sauvignon and riesling; and Craigie Knowe vineyard, founded by a local dentist who planted vines in 1979 and profited from his passion.
Alongside the wine, The Farm Shed offers gins by local distilleries Splendid Gin, Nonesuch and Strange Omen separately or as a tasting flight. The cafe also provides small bites such as cheese platters, paninis and terrines.
Mead and Bain encourage you to try a few wines as they pour and tell stories. Once you're done, order a few treats and browse the local art. Before you leave, send home a mixed dozen of your favourite wines via the post office out the back.
