Features
Compa is an Italian steakhouse by Matt Moran, and is the celebrity chef's first foray into Canberra's dining scene. This moody 116 seater showcases ACT produce via Italian small plates and starters like zucchini flowers with tre formaggi and lemon, and ’nduja with cannellini scarpetta and oregano.
But really, it’s all about the beef here; most of it sourced from Moran Family Farm, Westholme Wagyu and Brooklyn Valley Beef. The star of the show is Tuscany’s bistecca alla Fiorentina – but you can also order a T-bone steak, sirloin on the bone, or a dry-aged rib eye. All cuts are paired with a choice of sauce (red wine jus, anchovy butter, salsa verde) and a tableside mustard service. In true steakhouse style, there's an extensive list of sides – like cacio e pepe mac’n’cheese – and pastas.
Good beef calls for good wine, and Compa’s list flaunts bottles from Moran’s own private cellar. Alternatively, go for Italian-inspired cocktails or local options from Bentspoke, Capital Brewing and The Canberra Distillery.
Compa is the sibling to the Moran’s debut sandwich deli – & Sando – next door.
