Features
Capital Brewing Co was born when Canberra locals Tom Hertel and Laurence Kaine saw the growing potential for local beer in Australia. After convincing Wade Hurley to move from San Diego to Australia to be Capital’s head brewer, the duo are now behind one of the most recognisable craft beer brands in the country.
Capital's certified carbon-neutral HQ is where everything from brewing to canning happens. It’s located at Fyshwick’s Dairy Road precinct, a mixed use development packing in galleries, shared workspaces, indoor skiing, bouldering, eateries and more.
Inside the huge warehouse space is Capital’s tasting bar, one of the precinct’s biggest draw cards. Capital’s Coast Ale anchors the core range, an easy-drinking ale that’s sure to please the crowd. The Rock Hopper IPA and West Coast IPAs are hop-driven staples. Several taps are devoted to special release beers; a mix of seasonal styles and small-batch experiments.
The other big drawcard here is a burger van by Canberra institution, Brod Burger, which is serving up burgers, wings, hot dogs and fries. As for where you might eat this stuff, you’re pretty spoilt for choice. Tables are strewn throughout the venue, plus there’s a courtyard with a kids play area, and a sunny beer garden out the front ideal for summer.
