Prize season at the National Portrait Gallery kicks off with this much-anticipated photography exhibition.

The National Photographic Portrait Prize exhibition is a crowd favourite every year. With this year’s edition opening at Canberra’s National Portrait Gallery on Saturday June 25, this highly-anticipated exhibition reflects the distinctive visions of Australia’s top professional and aspiring portrait photographers, and their unique subjects.

Featuring 50 finalists carefully selected from an extensive pool of entries, the winner of the National Photographic Portrait Prize will be announced at the official launch on July 1. The winner will take home a $30,000 cash prize courtesy of the National Portrait Gallery, plus $20,000 worth of Canon equipment courtesy of Imaging Partner, Canon Australia. The People’s Choice Award is also open for voting online – the winner of which will receive $5,000, courtesy of the David Roche Foundation.

The exhibition coincides with two others at the National Portrait Gallery this season: the Darling Portrait Prize exhibition, showcasing the 39 finalists in the national prize for Australian portrait painting; and the inaugural Little Darlings Youth Portrait Prize. One ticket purchase gains you access to all three exhibitions.
