The Darling Portrait Prize
The Darling Portrait Prize is a national prize for Australian portrait painting, established in the memory of Mr L Gordon Darling, an instrumental figure in establishing the National Portrait Gallery of Australia. Opening Saturday June 25 and running until Sunday October 9, the Darling Portrait Prize features 39 finalists, painstakingly selected from a field of hundreds.
The winner, set to be announced when the exhibition opens on June 25, will take home a cash prize of $75,000. The People’s Choice Award is also open for voting online – the winner of which will receive $10,000 courtesy of the Liangis family.
The exhibition coincides with two others at the National Portrait Gallery this season: the National Photographic Portrait Prize exhibition, showcasing the 50 finalists in the national prize for Australian photographic portraits; and the inaugural Little Darlings Youth Portrait Prize. One ticket purchase gains you access to all three exhibitions.
