Features
Goodbyes is a secondhand clothing and accessories store with a vision to make shopping secondhand more desirable than buying new clothing. Its hybrid consignment model – where staff consign donated clothing from members of the public – means it can offer a broad range of quality pieces at fair price points.
Its founders Monique Thomas and Olivia Mangan worked in the resale industry before opening Goodbyes’ first Melbourne store in 2015. Today, their model enables shoppers across Melbourne, Canberra, Adelaide and Hobart to enjoy the unique and democratising elements of shopping seconds first.
Like many of its other outposts, the Braddon shop’s design is industrially focussed – open-plan, clad with light grey concrete with sage green details throughout. You’ll find a mixture of Australian and New Zealand labels, international designers, unique vintage and well-made basics in masculine and feminine styles. Floor-to-ceiling windows at the shop’s front display highlights from the store’s current offering hanging the silhouettes from chains.
Its racks are brimming – but don’t worry they’re colour-coded – and stock rotates regularly so you’ll likely encounter different iterations each time you visit the shop floor.
