A wall of waving maneki-neko cats greets you as you enter Lazy Su. That's where the fun starts at this fast-paced Asian diner, where posters of K-pop boy bands line the walls, and the upbeat soundtrack is jam-packed with ’80s and ’90s bangers.
But the real fun happens on the menu, which takes in Japanese, Korean and American influences. Wagyu cheesesteak spring rolls with kimchi mayo and nori tacos filled with sushi rice, salmon, tuna and avocado puree will get you started. Still hungry? Go for a DIY plate of fluffy bao, or hit one of the large sharing options, which could be Japanese-style roast chook or Korean braised short-rib.
To drink there’s an evolving list of cocktails – including share-sized ones served out of sumo-shaped vessels. But you’ll also find lo-fi wines, plus a raft of soju and local beers to keep the good times rolling.
After dark the neon lights switch on and Su turns up the volume to create a pan-Asian party. But wouldn’t you know it – this place also does a killer long lunch trade, and is the perfect spot for catch ups with the crew. Whatever you’re in the mood for, one of Canberra’s buzziest restaurants has you covered.
